Having proper lighting is essential and can make or break your remodel. Layering the lighting in your home may sound intimidating but can be brought about with a few basics.
Installing or upgrading the general lighting is first on the list. The goal is to select a hue as close to natural daylight as possible. In doing so you can include different light sources such as recessed lighting with a unique chandelier. No matter the type of general lighting you choose, ensuring your kitchen is evenly lit is key. Next to incorporate is task lighting. Here you have more freedom in choosing light fixtures that represent the design and feel of your kitchen. Task lighting is used to illuminate work spaces like islands, sinks, and countertops. Hanging pendant lights are recommended for most task focused areas. To increase the light being cast onto countertops, install under cabinet lighting in the form of pucks or strips. Last on the list, accent lighting. While not as important as the layers previously mentioned it is sure to pack a small punch. Accent lighting is best used to draw attention to specific areas of the kitchen and provide after hours lighting. For instance, if you’re choosing to display specific decorations, or tableware and you’ve included open shelving or glass front cabinets, this type of lighting will brighten otherwise shadowed areas.
See the difference for yourself by including layered lighting in your new design or existing space!
